Thousands Struck Ill by California Norovirus Outbreak

California health officials have confirmed more than 2,800 cases of norovirus in the past month in the state’s Yolo and Sacramento counties.

Multiple school districts in the two counties have reported hundreds of cases of the gastrointestinal illness. Health officials state that improper hand hygiene is a contributing factor in spreading the virus amongst students. School administrators have enacted enhanced cleaning procedures and have asked parents to keep children at home if they display norovirus-like symptoms, The Sacramento Bee reports.
