Spartan Compliance with Regulations for PFAS in Floor Finishes

Spartan Compliance with Regulations for PFAS in Floor Finishes

At Spartan Chemical, we are dedicated to ensuring our distributors remain compliant with state and federal laws. In response to current and impending regulations, we are proactively reformulating or discontinuing any product in our line that contains intentionally added per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). PFAS are a diverse group of chemicals known for their ability
to reduce surface energy making them ideal additives for grease, oil, and water repellency, as well as heat resistance and wetting agents in coatings, including floor finishes.

In January of 2025, Minnesota was the first state to ban intentionally added PFAS in cleaning products, which includes floor finish. In 2026, Maine and Washington bans will go into effect,
with pending regulations for Colorado and Connecticut enacting in phases over the next few years. See Table A.

Over the past year, Spartan has systematically rolled out reformulated floor finishes that comply with the various state PFAS regulations. These new formulas have undergone rigorous
testing to ensure they maintain the same high level of functionality as their predecessors. Your distributor has these products in stock and ready for this floor finish season. Throughout 2025, Spartan will transition away from intentionally added PFAS across our entire product line.

To make it easy for you to identify the new floor finish products, we are implementing an alternative packaging system during this transition. The new floor finishes will have new part codes and bar codes. Gallon packs will feature natural or “craft” cartons and white caps, while pails will have white lids.

If you have questions about these regulations or interest in making the switch to a floor finish with no intentionally added PFAS in your facility, contact a Spartan regional manager or authorized
distributor today.
