Innovation in HEPA Filtration and Advanced Filter Materials Drives HVAC Filters Market
A growing focus on healthier indoor environments is driving demand for high-efficiency filtration.
The global heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) filters market is expected to grow steadily from US$4.66 billion in 2026 to $6.21 billion by 2031, registering a projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.9% during the forecast period, according to a new MarketsandMarkets™ Inc. report. The HVAC filters market is expected to grow steadily over the forecast period due to increased demand for better indoor air quality, stringent air quality regulations and the expansion of the construction sector.
Rising awareness of airborne pollutants, allergens and pathogens is increasing adoption of high-efficiency filtration solutions, especially in hospitals, data centers, schools and manufacturing plants. Meanwhile, rapid urbanization, industrial expansion and stricter workplace safety requirements are driving facilities to upgrade their filtration systems.
HVAC filters remove airborne particles, dust, allergens and other contaminants from circulating air in residential, commercial and industrial environments. In turn, growing investment in clean indoor environments and energy-efficient buildings is accelerating adoption of high-performance filtration technologies.
Carbon dominated the market in 2025, accounting for 39.6%. According to the report, this growth was supported by its ability to adsorb odors and gaseous pollutants. Other materials include fiberglass, synthetic polymers and metal. HEPA, electrostatic precipitators, activated carbon and other technologies meet different filtration requirements. Still, HEPA filters will be the fastest-growing technology through 2031 with a projected CAGR of 5.4% for the period.
The research found that building and construction, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, automotive and other industries will drive demand, particularly where air cleanliness and contamination control are critical. Additionally, energy efficiency and sustainable materials will continue to dominate market trends, with manufacturers developing filters that balance filtration performance with lower airflow resistance and durable, recyclable and environmentally responsible filter materials.
