San Diego Disinfects Streets Against Hepatitis A

The city of San Diego, CA has hired cleaners to disinfect public streets with a bleach cleaning solution to help combat a hepatitis A outbreak.

The outbreak, which is linked to the region’s homeless population, has sickened 421 people and killed 16 in San Diego County since November 2016, CNN reports. During the previous five years, the county recorded an average of 28 hepatitis A infections per year.

The street cleaning and disinfection will occur Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays every other week in downtown San Diego. The city also will distribute pamphlets on proper hand hygiene to its municipal buildings.
