ProTeam has been about innovation since before we were ProTeam. Nearly 40 years ago, ProTeam’s founder, Larry Shideler, knew there was a better way to vacuum. Through his ingenuity, he created the modern-day lightweight backpack vacuum in 1983. Using this revolutionary invention, people experienced increases in productivity because the backpack vacuum was more comfortable to use and more effective than uprights.
While the first backpack vacuum was groundbreaking for its time, we have come a long way in comfort and technology. We started production of the QuarterVac® in 1987, and by 1990 we had created an optimal filtration system with four levels of filtration, providing a new level of clean. In 2003, we released the first battery-powered backpack vacuum, and in 2012, years of innovation and feedback led to the launch of the Super Coach Pro®—a lighter, more efficient, and more powerful backpack vacuum.
In 2015, new advances in battery technology helped in the launch of the cordless GoFree® Flex Pro. In 2018, we made improvements to our harness giving users increased comfort, breathability, and maneuverability when using backpack vacuums. And in 2020, we launched the GoFree Flex Pro II with two battery options for added versatility.
