A New Season

A New Season

September is a time for new beginnings. A new school year is in session. The fall season is almost here. It is fitting that Cleaning and Maintenance Management (CMM) will experience a new start as well. I’m happy to introduce myself as the new managing editor and look forward to my new beginning with ISSA, with you, and with the worldwide cleaning community as a whole.

ISSA and its media brands are no strangers to me. I’ve worked for several years as an editor for a trade publishing group with former ties to CMM and Cleanfax. There, I had the great opportunity to know ISSA Editorial Director Jeff Cross, Cleanfax Managing Editor Amanda Hosey, and Art Director Erika Talbot. When presented with the prospect of working with ISSA, I jumped at the chance to learn from Jeff’s many years of industry experience and work alongside a group of talented professionals, aka the dream “clean” team, who are dedicated to providing best-in-class information for facility service providers and building service contractors.

While the cleaning industry and its many facets are new to me, the mission of CMM is comfortingly familiar: providing solutions to your everyday challenges to make your job easier, more productive, and more profitable. I believe my background in providing content for industrial processing professionals (engineers, maintenance and operations staff, and facility managers) will serve me well in helping connect you with information that is insightful, useful, and available whenever and wherever you need it. While I have a lot to learn, I do know, for instance, the critical role hygiene plays in food and beverage processing facilities and in chemical and pharmaceutical plants. As the daughter of a professional window cleaner, I also know how important first impressions and professionalism are to the success of a small cleaning business.

Learning a new industry is an exciting adventure, and I look forward to learning it up and down from inside and out with your help. As I start my journey through this new landscape, I see familiar trends emerging, including challenges with changing workforce demographics, meeting sustainability goals, and adopting new technology. I can’t wait to delve into these trends and others I encounter along the way. I envision a rich future for CMM, where you see fresh content delivered in new ways in our print magazine and especially online. My goal is to stop you in your tracks with information you didn’t even know you needed to know, again and again.

I look forward to meeting many of you at the ISSA Show North America 2019 in Las Vegas, November 18–21 (read the show preview on page 16). Until then, please send me a line at [email protected] to introduce yourselves. I’d love to hear from you and learn about your business and any story ideas you have to share with me and your cleaning community.
