The poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson famously declared that spring makes a young man’s fancy turn to love. Although love is grand, for those less starry-eyed, spring’s milder temperatures also indicate it’s time for cleaning. Spring cleaning is synonymous with deep cleaning—a chance to thoroughly remove the dust and grime that may have built up in offices and other commercial facilities over the winter. Deep cleaning can be done at any time of year, but as many people associate it with the spring season, it behooves commercial cleaning companies to capitalize on that with their current clients, as well as use a spring-cleaning pitch to attract new customers. Be sure to remind your clients that spring cleaning keeps their employees healthy and improves the image of their business. Provide spring cleaning basics It’s been three years since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. While communities and workplaces have mostly returned to normal, the coronavirus is still out there, not to mention the many other germs that populate our office spaces. When a business is closed off to the elements in winter, the air becomes stagnant and can be a petri dish for viruses that cause the common cold, COVID-19, and the flu. If your company offers sanitization or disinfection services, now would be a good time to remind your clients of this and to suggest these services to provide peace of mind for their facility inhabitants. Be sure to offer disinfection for high-touch areas like light switches, doorknobs, desks and tables, and computer keyboards. Head off mold and mildew Mold grows in high-moisture areas, like restrooms, even if they are cleaned regularly. Offer a restroom deep cleaning that addresses grout, corners, and other potential problem areas. These offerings increase the overall value of your service and reduce the odds of a major mold or mildew problem in the future. Be sure to keep a record of any concerning trends or areas that could be prone to mold or mildew and point these areas out to your clients. Improve air quality A thorough dusting will improve indoor air quality and help building inhabitants breathe easier, as well as make the entire office look and feel cleaner. Offer high-level dusting of open ceiling designs or high-ceiling common areas as a spring-time service, or on a quarterly basis. Be sure to address pollen removal as part of your springtime indoor or exterior services. Indoors, pollen causes problems for allergy sufferers, while outdoors it covers surfaces with an unsightly yellow blanket of spores. Scrub carpets and floors Spring is an ideal time for facilities to clean their carpets to remove the traces of mud, dirt, and debris that visitors tracked in during the winter. Soil and debris collecting in carpet weakens the fibers and causes carpet to wear out more quickly. A deep clean will not only keep carpet looking new longer, it will also help eliminate pollen and other allergens. Carpet isn’t the only surface that takes a beating during the harsh winter months. Spills and tracked-in debris can leave a buildup of dirt, grime, and stains on tile and other hard floor surfaces. Offer a thorough cleaning, especially concentrating on dull and dingy high-traffic areas, to bring a spring back into the step of building users. Bring the sunshine in with window cleaning Ice, snow, and other elements from the cold winter months can do a number on windows, leaving them streaked and grimy. Once the windows are sparkling clean again, the facility interior will seem brighter and boost employee morale. Offer window cleaning at least twice a year, including in the spring. Many commercial buildings can benefit from more frequent cleanings. Warm up to spring cleaning Any time you deep clean a commercial facility, be it spring or another season, you are creating a healthy environment for the company’s workers and customers. A clean environment protects building inhabitants from infectious pathogens that cause illnesses—and may have the added benefit of boosting their morale and increasing their productivity. A clean facility also will attract more customers, possibly increasing the company’s income. So go ahead and advertise your spring cleaning services and specials. Promoting spring as the season to clean is in everyone’s best interest and a way to improve your company’s and your customers’ bottom lines.
