ISSA Among Group Seeking Clarification of Event Reopening Guidelines

June 11, 2020

ISSA, as a member of Go LIVE Together, a coalition of leaders from across the events industry advocating for the protection of the industry as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, is seeking assurances from states and municipalities that events previously scheduled in those locations can and will take place.

To date, Go LIVE has been working to get state and local officials to offer those assurances in California, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, and New York.  In its communications with officials in those states, Go LIVE has noted that business events—along with hotels, airlines, and restaurants—are aligning around medically substantiated safety standards, which meet or exceed U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines, to ensure participant safety. Go Live representatives have been working with CDC officials as well as representatives from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Global Biorisk Advisory Council® (GBAC), a division of ISSA, and other health experts to ensure event participant safety.

GBAC recently launched the GBAC STAR™ facility accreditation program, providing guidelines and protocols to ensure participants safety at certified venues.  The performance-based GBAC STAR program enables facilities to create and maintain an effective cleaning, disinfection, and infectious disease prevention program. These standards have already been adopted by dozens of facilities worldwide.

ISSA is working diligently to support the full spectrum of the cleaning industry in the U.S. worldwide during the COVID-19 pandemic, including providing a variety of government affairs resources to support our members during this challenging time.
