Special Magazine Issue Thanks Capitol Custodians

March 11, 2021

Although the efforts of cleaning crews often go unnoticed, one publication put out a special edition of its magazine to thank workers who cleaned the U.S. Capitol building after it was breached by a mob on January 6.

Tholos, the Architect of the Capitol’s employee magazine, released the special edition earlier this month to recognize the hard work the building’s custodial crew put in restoring the Capitol to a presentable condition so members of Congress could resume their work, WUSA-TV reports.

The magazine opens with a message of appreciation from the Architect of the Capitol, J. Brett Blanton. Then the rest of the magazine is filled with images of thank you notes Americans sent to the cleaners in care of the Capitol building.

The note writers range in age from older adults to toddlers who drew pictures with crayons. Members of Girls Scout troops told the custodians they’re “the best” and grade school students commiserated with the crews, explaining they too often had to clean up after other people’s messes, mainly those of their siblings.

Later this month is the perfect opportunity to recognize the cleaners in your own facility. National Cleaning Week, March 28 – April 3, offers countless ways for industry professionals to celebrate the value of clean, recognize front-line essential workers, explore training opportunities, support charitable causes, and more.
