New York Governor Signs Bill Banning Products With 1,4-Dioxane
On December 9, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation (S.4389-B/A.6295-A) effectively prohibiting the presence of 1,4-Dioxane, an unintentional byproduct, in cleaning and personal care products starting in 2022. In response to its passage John Nothdurft, ISSA Director of Government Relations said, “We urge Governor Cuomo to reconsider the issue and work with industry, public health advocates, and policymakers to come up with a workable and effective solution to the issue.”

California Courts Take Up Three Independent Contractor Cases
The California Supreme Court is considering three cases, which could clarify when a rigid three-part test is to be used to classify workers as independent contractors or employees. Conflicting court decisions regarding worker classification includes one involving Jan-Pro Commercial Cleaning Services which is a franchise company. ISSA continues to monitor laws, regulations, and court cases such as these which could impact the cleaning industry.
