Window Washers Go on Strike

August 17, 2021

High-rise window cleaners in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota went on strike yesterday morning seeking more safety on the job, CBD-TV reports.

The workers, who are contracted from Columbia Building Services and Final Touch Commercial Cleaning, are part of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 26. In addition to cleaning windows, many have been asked to clean inside offices where COVID-19 cases were reported.

SEIU representatives say the workers have received little training or equipment to clean offices. The union is asking that the employers recognize the challenges their workers face in being expected to perform more duties and want more guarantees of safety on the job.
