When the professional cleaning industry gathers this November at ISSA Show North America in Las Vegas, sustainability will take center stage. This year’s program goes beyond environmental responsibility to focus on how sustainability helps organizations build more resilient businesses.
Volunteers from ISSA’s Sustainability Committee have developed a comprehensive sustainability program for the ISSA Show. Beginning with education sessions on Monday, Nov. 16, attendees will learn about emerging regulations, practical business applications, innovative tools, and new technologies.
The committee’s message is simple: Think sustainably. Before making an important business decision, ask: Is there a more efficient approach? Can you reduce waste? Will your decision lower costs, reduce risk, improve customer value, or strengthen the business over the long term?
Sustainability resources
A presentation on Wednesday, Nov. 18, will feature David Gottfried, founder of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), who transformed the marketplace by creating the organization that developed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) green building rating system. The first 500 attendees at Gottfried’s presentation will receive an autographed copy of his new book.
The ISSA Show also will highlight ISSA’s Sustainability Reporting Platform. As customers increasingly request sustainability, companies need an efficient way to collect data, benchmark performance, and generate credible reports.
This tool is especially important for California businesses as a law will require many of the state’s largest companies to report their greenhouse gas emissions and climate-related financial risks beginning in 2027. As these organizations gather information throughout their supply chains, they will ask cleaning product manufacturers, distributors, and service providers to provide sustainability data. Companies that can respond with credible information will have a significant competitive advantage.
Weathering challenges
A new handbook, Preparing for El Niño and Extreme Weather Events, will also make its introduction at the ISSA Show, along with its companion artificial intelligence agent. Extreme weather is disrupting businesses with increasing frequency, making preparedness an essential part of sustainability. Designed for small- and medium-sized organizations, these resources simplify business continuity planning and help companies prepare before disaster strikes.
ISSA Show attendees will come away with a clear message: Sustainability is no longer measured only by environmental performance. It is measured by how efficiently organizations operate, how well they respond to customer expectations, how effectively they manage risk, and how resilient they are when unexpected challenges arise.
Companies that think sustainably will be better positioned to succeed in the years ahead.
