The death of a leukemia patient who contracted a fungal infection is believed to be connected to mold-infested linens from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) in Mt. Nebo Pointe, PA.
An internal report filed by UPMC said the mold came from the ventilation systems of Paris Healthcare Linen Services, the laundry service for UPMC, as previously reported by CMM News.
Currently, UPMC and Paris Healthcare Linen Services are defendants in three wrongful death lawsuits out of six deaths linked to the moldy linens.
Paris Healthcare Linen Services maintains its innocence.
“Paris Companies consistently meets or exceeds accreditation standards and regulatory guidelines for laundering linens, which demonstrates our ongoing commitment to quality and safety,” Paris Companies CEO Dave Stern told CNN. “We continue to cooperate with all regulatory agencies involved in the oversight of linen processing.”
