Three 3M Disinfectants Earn EPA COVID-19 Approval

3M Disinfectants

The COVID-19 pandemic has heightened the need for sound disinfection processes across almost all facilities. Now, more than ever, ensuring a clean and healthy facility is critical to remaining open as we weather this pandemic together.

3M is playing a critical role in the global response to the pandemic and is dedicated to helping facility management teams navigate the complexities of a COVID-19 world by providing the tools, products, and training to do so safely. This includes offering efficient and effective disinfectants. As part of your COVID-19 preparedness and control plan, high-touch surfaces should be cleaned and disinfected regularly to help lower the risk of spreading infection.

EPA approvals

The U.S. EPA has been approving disinfectants for the adoption of a SARS-CoV-2—the virus that causes COVID-19—efficacy claim. Recently, the 3M™ Disinfectant RCT Cleaner Concentrate (#40), 3M™ Quat Disinfectant Cleaner Concentrate (#5), and the 3MTM TB Quat Disinfectant Ready-To-Use Cleaner have been approved for the adoption of a SARS-CoV-2 efficacy claim.

These approvals are part of the EPA’s efforts to provide the public with information on how to safely and effectively protect against the novel coronavirus on surfaces. Additionally, the EPA activated List N in response to the pandemic, which allows manufacturers to register products with the EPA that are effective against viruses harder-to-kill than SARS-CoV-2. Currently, List N includes nine 3M™ disinfectants. For customer and employee safety, using EPA-approved disinfectants is an important tool for reducing the risk of exposure to COVID-19.

EPA approvals reflect 3M’s commitment to developing innovative cleaning and disinfectant solutions that meet the needs of customers. Even with EPA approvals, 3M emphasizes that proper product use is critical to the effective and safe use of any disinfectant. When using any disinfectant, customers are instructed to follow label directions, including dwell time, for safe, effective use.
