Custodians Rally for Higher Wages and Improved Insurance

September 4, 2019

Hundreds of 32BJ Service Employees International Union (SEIU) members participated in a rally and march in Newark, New Jersey, earlier this week on Labor Day.

The union represents more than 7,000 custodians and building service contractors who clean and maintain facilities throughout New Jersey who are up for a new contract. Their current contract is set to expire December 31, with negotiations slated to begin next month, WPIX reports. The workers are seeking a wage increase and improved insurance benefits. According to union representatives, if their requests are not met during the contract negotiations, the workers have agreed to strike on January 1, 2020.
