August 8, 2019

One person has died as the result of a Legionnaires’ Disease outbreak at an Atlanta hotel, CNN reports.

The outbreak at the Sheraton Atlanta has been linked to an additional 11 confirmed cases of the disease and another 61 probable cases, up from 55.

Probable cases are people who have symptoms of the disease, including diagnosed pneumonia, but who do not have a laboratory confirmation of Legionnaires’ Disease. All 73 people were guests at the Sheraton property in Atlanta between June 12 and July 15. The 12 guests who were confirmed to have the disease had attended a convention in early July.

The hotel remains closed while infectious disease experts continue to examine water sources at the facility and wait for the results of pending tests.
