Cleaning services encompass a wide range of services such as window washing, floor cleaning, vacuuming, furniture cleaning, carpet cleaning, air duct cleaning, water damage restoration, and other similar services. These services are used by both commercial and residential customers.

The strong growth of the global cleaning services industry has been promoted by increasing health and hygiene awareness in residential and commercial sectors. In 2025, the market was roughly worth $560.02 billion and anticipated reaching $146.94 billion by 2035 with a CAGR of 6.40%.

These numbers highlight a huge market opportunity for professional cleaning services, green cleaning solutions, and smart cleaning technology verticals.

The commercial cleaning services sector—consisting of supervisory, janitorial, and office-clerical support for commercial establishments such as corporate offices, healthcare facilities, hospitality venues with bar/restaurant features as well as industrial constructions—has captured more than 70% share of overall market dominantly due to these reasons:

  • Hygiene awareness = more jobs: The post-pandemic demand has increased the institutional appetite for cleaning, disinfection, and sanitization services forever.
  • Technology integration: Adoption of artificial intelligence, smart dispensers, and robotic floor scrubbers are becoming operational benchmarks transforming the dynamics of the cleaning services market.
  • Sustainability directives: Today, items like biodegradable products, water-saving systems, and green chemical substitutes, such as eco-friendly alternative chemicals, become the principal differentiators in B2B to avoid decisions.
  • Contractual models: Long-term contracts and agreements are prevalent, driving over 65% of the revenues in the market and providing operational predictable service productivity across industries.
  • Growth in digital booking: New residential demand is unveiled via app- and web-based booking platforms, showing rapid growth as platform-mediated workforce models are creating a new sub-segment.

By service type, floor care contributed the highest share, with a value of $12,293.8 million in 2020 that is expected to generate by $22,820.2 million until 2030 with a CAGR of 5.7% commanding, amounting to approximately 32% revenue share. The fastest growing sub-segment, carpet and upholstery, with the highest CAGR of 7.8%, caters to demands from hospitality, healthcare, and corporate interiors maintenance.

In the category of window cleaning, maid services, and vacuuming, the report found these services were prevalent across commercial high-rises and urban dual-income houses.  Air duct cleaning, post-construction cleaning, water damage restoration, and specialty disinfecting also were reported as higher margin growth verticals.

North America represents the highest revenue contributor to the global cleaning services market with approximately 36% share of value, followed by Europe and East Asia. The 2025 market size was $97.60 billion in the U.S., which is projected to grow at a CAGR of 6.3% from 2024 to 2034, reaching a market size of $169.39 billion by 2034. The U.S. has an expanding footprint of a broad patchwork of contracted service providers and long-term corporate agreements.

Illinois House Passes Bill Mandating School Air-Quality Monitors

May 26, 2026

In April, the Illinois General Assembly passed House Bill 4739 to improve the indoor air quality for schools, WAND News reported. This plan requires school districts to ensure that all active classrooms are equipped with air-quality monitors.

Advocates expect the state to spend roughly US$10 million to buy monitors for classrooms statewide. The plan would also require the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to work with the Illinois Department of Public Health to create a document explaining the values of good indoor air quality for districts.

House Bill 4739 amends the Illinois school code that requires the inspection of all buildings in a school district once every 10 years. This requirement helps populate the data collected in ISBE’s health/life safety survey system about public school facilities, including school buildings, for all school districts other than Chicago Public Schools (CPS).

ISBE estimates that approximately 110,000 active classrooms exist statewide including those within CPS. However, it’s possible that this number is understated, since many schools utilize smaller rooms that may be considered active classrooms.

ISBE said HB 4739 does not specify what types of air-quality monitors would be funded by an appropriation. Commercial air-quality monitor costs can range from $200 to several thousands of dollars per unit. This bill also does not contemplate ongoing maintenance costs that districts might face, such as the cost of repairing or replacing damaged or obsolete monitors, or ongoing subscription costs that some monitors require. Ultimately, the ISBE cannot determine potential costs to districts.

The proposal now resides in the Illinois Senate for further consideration.
