Goodwill of South Central Ohio Resurrects Its Custodial Service

August 1, 2022

On July 26, Goodwill of South Central Ohio announced that it has reinstated its Good and Clean custodial service with a contract for cleaning the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Larrick Lane garage in Chillicothe, Ohio.

Already offered through several other Goodwill incorporations throughout the United States, the Good and Clean division provides contract cleaning services such as dusting, trash removal, floor and carpet cleaning, and disinfection for schools, offices, and other commercial buildings. Services can be provided as just a one-time cleaning or on a regular recurring basis.

“We’re excited about starting contract work, which not only can help local business and manufacturing but also provide new job opportunities for the communities we serve, including those with disabilities and challenges,” said Jona Ison, business development and communications coordinator for Goodwill.

Goodwill also employs individuals for janitorial contracts through its partnership with the Ability One®program. Established in 1938, the program is administered by the U.S. AbilityOne Commission®, an independent federal agency, and provides employment opportunities to more than 90,000 people, including nearly 3,000 veterans, across the United States. In fact, the AbilityOne program is the largest source of employment for people who are blind or have other significant disabilities in the United States.

Many of Goodwill’s AbilityOne janitors first complete the company’s Janitorial Training Program. This program is designed for individuals with barriers to employment who have little or no prior work history and would like to learn commercial janitorial/housekeeping skills.

The 24-week training program includes a paid internship through Goodwill and features three levels:

  • Skill development: obtaining the technical and soft skills needed to find and keep a job
  • Case management services throughout the duration of the training program
  • Weekly assessments and feedback.

Those who successfully complete all three levels receive a Janitorial Certificate from Goodwill.
