Medical School Staff Pitch in With Housekeeping
Like other facilities across the country, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), a medical school affiliated with University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas, has a shortage of housekeeping workers. To allow the limited environmental services (EVS) staff to focus on clinical areas, UAMS Chancellor Dr. Cam Patterson asked all university staff to pitch in with custodial duties for at least the next two months, the Arkansas Times reports.
Staff in nonclinical areas are to pick up an empty trash in their work areas. They are also in charge of dusting and vacuuming their offices, wiping down conference rooms, and cleaning all private restrooms located in individual offices.
“One of the employee teams most heavily impacted by the pandemic is clinical housekeeping in our environmental services group,” said Patterson. “Thank you to everyone for stepping up to help. This will allow us to ensure that we have the housekeeping support needed to continue providing the safest care possible for our patients.”
