Neighborhood Cleanup Helps Community Pillar Avoid Fines
According to WTXL-TV, community members in Tallahassee, Florida, have come together to help a man clean up his property and avoid city fines for code violations.
Described as a “pillar of the community,” Edgar Jackson has been living in his Griffin Heights neighborhood home for more than 50 years. Jackson, who had been collecting things to sell to a salvage yard in order to make financial ends meet, faced penalties and fines from the city of Tallahassee if he could not clean his property according to code ordinances by the end of September.
That’s when local pastor Rudolph “Rudy” Ferguson Sr. reached out to the community for help. The volunteers worked to clean up Jackson’s property and have plans to rebuild his fence and paint his home as well.
“I feel that we have helped out tremendously,” volunteer Hunter Coble, owner of a fencing and painting business, told WTXL.
“This type of stuff will make an old man cry,” Jackson said in response to the volunteers’ efforts.
