Robotic Cleaning Market Experiences Significant Growth in 2022

November 2, 2023

Sales of cleaning robots in both professional and domestic sectors increased in 2022, according to European Cleaning Journal (ECJ). The International Federation of Robotics (IFR) reported 8% growth in the global professional sector, totaling nearly 6,900 units sold, predominantly for floor cleaning. On the European domestic front, around 4.9 million cleaning and vacuuming robots were sold.

According to ECJ, the boost in robotic adoption can be attributed to staff shortages, particularly in hospitality and agriculture, pushing companies toward automated solutions. As stated by Marina Bill, International Federation of Robotics president, “The service robot industry is developing at a fast pace. A shortage of skilled workers and a lack of staff applying for service jobs are both boosting demand.”

Statistics from IFR for 2022 show a 48% increase in service robot sales for professional use, reaching 158,000 units. The transport and logistics sectors led the growth with a 44% increase, and agriculture saw an 18% rise in robot use for tasks like milking and barn cleaning. However, the medical sector experienced a 4% decrease in robot sales for surgeries, rehabilitation, and noninvasive therapy.

This data highlights a trend toward increased automation in various industries, responding to labor shortages and seeking efficiency in cleaning and service tasks.
