The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification (IICRC) has opened nominations for its 2022 board of directors. IICRC seeks submissions to serve a three-year term on the institute’s 15-member board of directors from individuals who are actively involved in the cleaning, restoration, inspection, and allied or related industries. Luallen is technical director for XL North, a division of Textile Rubber and Chemical Co. He currently serves as the IICRC Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) chair of the Commercial Carpet Maintenance Technician (CCMT) Committee and is the former vice chair of the Resilient Floor Maintenance Technician (RFMT) Committee. “The IICRC board of directors and I are pleased to welcome Bill as an honorary director,” said Carey Vermeulen, IICRC chairman. “He brings a wealth of knowledge that will better serve the IICRC and its registrants.”

ISSA’s Cleaning Management Institute (CMI) and Sunbelt Rentals have entered a partnership to provide online and in-person training supporting career development for building service contractors, in-house service providers, and other cleaning industry professionals. The two organizations are offering a free, online Cleaning 101 certificate course designed as an entry-level guide to the industry. The available courses range from the chemistry of cleaning to floor cleaning and hard floor care. Participants will receive a certificate of completion once all courses have been passed. The American Cleaning Institute (ACI) has appointed Nathan Sell to the newly created position of director of regulatory science. Snell joins ACI from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), where served as a chemical review manager in the agency’s Office of Pesticide Programs and Science Coordination and Policy. Previously he served as an editorial board member for the University of Pennsylvania’s WH2O Journal and a coordinator for the Initiative for Global Environmental Leadership (IGEL) at the Wharton School. In his new role, Snell will be responsible for development and management of research strategies related to the safety of cleaning product ingredients. He will also serve as the main point of contact for ACI’s chemical management and regulatory programs. “Nathan comes on board with extensive knowledge in risk-based decision making and technical writing, having worked at the EPA in the Offices of Pesticide Programs and Science Coordination and Policy,” said Dr. James Kim, ACI vice president. “His experience leading a team of scientists, economists, and technical staff for pesticide reviews will translate well to working with ACI task forces and work groups.”
Infection prevention expert and consultant Dr. Gavin Macgregor-Skinner discusses his new position as director of the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), a division of ISSA, that began May 18, in a new edition of Straight Talk with Jeff Cross. The American Cleaning Institute (ACI) has appointed Dr. Ashley N. Queen to the newly created position of director of microbiology and public health. Queen joins ACI from the U.S. Federal Drug Administration (FDA), where she was a senior staff fellow in the center for drug evaluation and research performing CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls) biologic drug review. She previously served as a commissioner’s fellow for the FDA’s Office of Regulatory Affairs. In her new position, Queen will lead ACI’s Topical Antiseptics Program, a multi-year research “Ashley joins ACI with extensive knowledge as an accomplished microbiologist, having worked in government, nonprofit, and academic settings,” said Dr. James Kim, ACI Vice President. “Initially, she will focus on ACI’s Topical Antiseptics Program. Down the line, she will also support potential future projects on the microbiome and probiotic cleaning.”

Dakduk previously served as executive vice president and director of government relations at Career Education Colleges and Universities (CECU).
