German University Creates New Environmentally Friendly Building

The recently opened central building for Leuphana University Lüneburg, Germany, produces zero waste emissions through environmentally friendly technologies and design, according to a report from Inhabitat.com.

The nearly 14,000-square-foot facility utilizes sustainable technologies such as renewable energy, a green roof, and a gray water system to produce no waste emissions. The property has exceeded Germany’s Energy Conservation Regulations, a government code which sets the energy efficiency standards for the country’s buildings.

“The idea for this project was to create a hub that would inspire the students through multiple connected spaces, infused with natural light and exciting new geometries,” said architect Daniel Libeskind. “It was a true creative collaboration by incorporating students’ ideas about the program and design elements into the final design.”
