ICAN/ATEX: How many people do I need for a 4,000 square foot job?

Many cleaning professionals visit the International Custodial Advisers Network (ICAN) Ask the Experts page for insight and, every business day, we deliver advice to better help you perform your job.

Tuesday’s Question:ICANATEX Logo

I was asked to quote for cleaning 4,000 sq. ft. of office space in New York City with 2 restrooms, 1 break room and bi-weekly cleaning services.

How many people can be used to do this work and what should I charge for such cleaning per month?

Please help me out on this project.

Tuesday’s Answer:

Cleaning at a rate of 2000 sq. ft. per hour, one cleaner can do the job in 2 hours.

Or, you could use a 2-man team and complete the work in an hour.

That sort of decision is for you to make, depending on your available manpower.

Your charge must cover your labor, supplies, overhead and related costs of doing business and leave you with income from your personal efforts to recruit, train and supervise.
