Mats And Matting Matter

Do you have an effective matting system in your facilities?

Do you have an effective matting system in your facilities?

Mats — in their many configurations, colors and considerations for customization — get walked over and stepped on every day, but their importance should never be taken for granted.

Entrance mats are a building’s first line of defense against the 90 percent of dirt, dust and debris that is tracked into a facility on the shoe bottoms of patrons, helping reduce wear on hard surface floors and lessen soiling on carpet by trapping soils.matting

Other offerings — anti-fatigue mats used to reduce leg and body strain for those who stand for extended periods; rubber mats that provide sure footing in foodservice or other wet, greasy areas; and logo mats that offer traction and collect soils at floor surface transitions — can help protect the safety of building occupants, safeguard the wellbeing of workers and reinforce branding messages.

Since mats can be both attractive and effective — read: Aesthetically functional — it is a wonder why everyone doesn’t use them to their full potential; some have too little matting, others have the incorrect types of mats and there are those who forego matting because they think they aren’t necessary or because they are unsure where to begin.
