Proposed ACA Repeal Would Reduce Infection Control Funding

The latest bill proposed this week by the U.S. House of Representatives to repeal the Affordable Health Care Act would remove the Prevention and Public Health Fund, a US$1 billion dollar annual fund utilized by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to support programs that protect the public from outbreaks, bioterrorism, and emerging infectious diseases. The proposed legislation does not contain a plan for replacing the fund.

The proposed bill would affect support programs that help detect and control health care-acquired infections, the CDC’s immunization program, and CDC-led risk surveillance programs, according to the Washington Post.
