RETHINK CLEAN at ISSA Show North America 2023

One Industry. One Mission. One Show. Don’t miss the industry’s biggest and best event.

RETHINK CLEAN at ISSA Show North America 2023

ISSA, the worldwide cleaning industry association, will blend longstanding traditions with new practices as it celebrates its 100th anniversary this November at ISSA Show North America 2023.
Join more than 13,000 of your industry peers November 13–16 at a brand-new location: The Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. The show brings together leaders from the commercial, institutional, and residential cleaning communities for engaging education sessions, unlimited networking opportunities, and a showcase of the latest products and innovations.

“ISSA Show North America is the industry’s largest and most anticipated event of the year,” said ISSA Executive Director John Barrett. “This year we are celebrating ISSA’s 100th anniversary and are excited to bring an event packed with more educational, networking, and product discovery opportunities than ever before.”

The Mandalay Bay Convention Center has ample classrooms and show floor space for larger shows like ISSA North America. With more than 600 exhibitors, the expo hall will include six pavilions, four on-floor theaters, and representation from over 20 countries.

“We’re excited to bring everyone together at Mandalay Bay for the first time,” said ISSA Show North America Director Ed Nichols. “With 2.1 million gross square feet of meeting and exhibit space, it is one of the largest convention centers in the U.S. From networking events and the expo hall, to restaurants, entertainment, and hotel accommodations, attendees can now experience the entire show all under one roof.”

The newly expanded Sustainability Hub will be on the show floor with additional sessions and activities, sponsored by Sofidel Group. Stop by Booth #1246 for information and educational sessions on green cleaning and other environmental topics.

Sign up for a workshop and get certified

There’s no excuse to put off earning a certification in a new cleaning or management skill. For a separate fee, the ISSA Show offers multiple workshops for your convenience. Here are some
highlights from several special workshops:

The IEHA Certified Environmental Services Executive (CESE) and Registered Environmental Services Executive (RESE) workshop on Monday, November 13, Wednesday, November 15, and Thursday, November 16, provides a comprehensive, accelerated review of IEHA’s Professional Education Credentialing Program (PECP)—a leading credentialing and certification program for professional cleaners. Participants will learn strategies for staff development and management, as well as effective communication with customers and staff. They will gain an understanding of why the environmental services (EVS) team is an important link in the infection control chain.

The Cleaning Management Institute’s (CMI) Train the Trainer two-day workshop is ideal for facility service professionals in the industrial, commercial, restoration, and public venue sectors of the cleaning industry. The two-day workshop, starting on Tuesday, November 14, will provide instruction not only in frontline procedures but also in the proper teaching methods to improve your team’s efficiency through the CMI Custodial Technician Certification course.

The ISSA Cleaning for Health Workshop: Helping Essential Cleaners Identify Reservoirs for Germs aims to assist frontline facility service professionals with closing the gaps in current disease transmission protections and controls. The three-hour, free session on Tuesday, November 14, will teach attendees the five elements that germs need to spread infection. It will pinpoint the reservoirs where you can find pathogens and the pathways that spread them to other areas of your facility. Participants will gain best practices to help them decrease or eliminate the risk of germ survival and spread.

The CMI Hard Floor Care Certification Course will teach you about equipment, its purpose, and how to use it safely. Additionally, discover important factors in selecting the right type of tools such as a mop, broom, vacuum, and floor machine and the proper procedures to effectively perform the tasks at hand. Discover how to maintain new and unique flooring such as polyvinyl sheeting, rubber, bamboo, laminates, luxury vinyl tile (LVT), luxury vinyl plank (LVP), and more. This CMI course is compliant with the ISSA Training Standard. This session is Wednesday, November 15, and features CMI Master Trainer Stan Hulin.

CMI’s Carpeted Floor Care Certification Course, also on Wednesday, provides an in-depth overview of carpeted floor surface care and current standards, including daily maintenance, long-term care cleaning methods, and preventative measures that protect and extend the life of carpeted surfaces. Attendees will learn how to choose the proper carpet-cleaning tools and equipment, and how to use it safely and efficiently. The session will include a discussion on the rapidly changing technological landscape regarding autonomous equipment.

Seek education in the classroom and on the show floor

In addition to the workshops, the ISSA Show will feature more than 70 educational sessions in classrooms and at specialty booths amid all the action on the exhibition floor. Participants can
attend the classroom sessions by purchasing an all-assess pass.

Divided into several tracks, the sessions will provide information and resources to keep attendees up to date on the latest trends and solutions for cleaning, disinfection, and infection prevention. Several of the sessions will be presented in both English and Spanish.

The Business Development and Marketing Track includes 18 sessions, including The Contract Cleaning Conundrum: Boosting Business and Building Employee Loyalty, which focuses on
the fierce competition in business and labor. Attendees will learn how to stand out from the competition to avoid a “race to the bottom” when bidding on business, as well as how to build their
brands, position their businesses as leaders, and make their employees feel valued. In Symbiotic Relationship: Facility Management and Janitorial Supplier Partners, the speaker and attendees
will discuss the technology, innovations, and best practices required for delivering top-notch custodial services to clients.

The Thought Leadership Track offers four sessions including Sustainable Cleaning Operations: Ensuring the Efficacy of Eco-conscious Cleaners and Disinfectants. Although some might be skeptical about the effectiveness of green cleaners, choosing the right set of products can help your facility reach sustainability goals while still effectively cleaning and disinfecting. Participants in this session, sponsored by Clorox Pro, will discuss the sustainability benefits of greener products and key features to consider before purchasing.

The past decade has brought an unprecedented increase in new/modified disinfection products designed to decontaminate equipment and surfaces. One of the sessions in the Facility Operations & Maintenance TrackDisinfectants: What’s in Your Bucket?—explains that disinfectants can now be delivered via a vapor, mist, or aerosol (hydrogen peroxide), in an electrostatically charged spray, or as light beams (ultraviolet light). And check out the How to Work with Facility Management Firms session to learn about the qualifications (innovation, operational sophistication, industry knowledge) that will help you develop a good working relationship with these firms.

Facility management and cleaning services, whether provided by contractors or in-house, are industries ripe for disruption. They have been slow to adopt technology due to several obstacles, including a lack of digital skills, competing priorities, and cost-cutting efforts. The Technology and Innovation Track features 11 sessions, including Embracing Disruption: The Potential of Robotic Automation and Augmented Reality in Facilities Management. This session’s speaker will discuss the use of robotic automation and augmented reality to handle repetitive and hazardous tasks, freeing up personnel for more complex and skilled jobs. By embracing this emerging technology, facility management companies can streamline operations, reduce downtime, and enhance the quality of their services.

Five years ago, sustainability was a talking point; today, it’s a necessity. As a global movement, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues have their own track at the ISSA Show. The Green Cleaning Evolution: An Exceptional In-Person Experience in Today’s Workplace (which takes place in the Sustainability Hub on Tuesday, November 14) will uncover challenges and present several cutting-edge methods to enhance the in-person workplace experience. Attendees will learn how to boost productivity, reduce absenteeism, increase safety in facilities, and ultimately drive an exceptional experience. In addition to learning how to create a workplace environment where people want to come back, attendees will also discover how sustainable cleaning efforts will help them make minor adjustments to workplace areas.

The pandemic challenged frontline workers to their limits, resulting in a smaller workforce. The Leadership, Career and Talent Development Track features How Do You Attract People Outside
the Pool? This session will offer tips for attracting workers back to your mode of service and discuss the factors that make people want to work for you and further their careers.

Party like it’s 2023

In addition to offering education, the ISSA show provides the opportunity for attendees to hear from motivational speakers and to live it up during social events. Purchasing an all-access pass will allow you to attend Then, Now, Forever | Celebrating 100 Years of ISSA on Tuesday morning, November 14. In this event, a spotlight panel showcasing emerging leaders will highlight monumental moments in the cleaning industry over the past 100 years and discuss what’s in store for the cleaning industry in the next century.

That evening, head over to the Hakkasan Nightclub in the MGM Grand Las Vegas for the BIG BASH + ISSA’s Centennial Celebration from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. This event is sponsored by Spartan Chemical Co., Inc. You’ll enjoy complimentary drinks, food, and live entertainment from the rock band 7th Heaven, sponsored by Essendant.

“Spartan is honored to be the Centennial sponsor for the BIG BASH + ISSA’s Centennial Celebration,” said Cali Sartor, Spartan Chemical’s vice president of marketing. “We look forward to
hosting our guests at the BASH. It’s going to be one heck of a 100th-anniversary party!”

Keep your all-access pass handy the next morning for a presentation by Doc Hendley, founder and international president of Wine to Water—a nonprofit that provides clean water to
people in need around the world.

Toast award-winning innovation

An attendee favorite, the ISSA Show Innovation Program is back by popular demand to showcase the year’s most innovative products and services in the cleaning industry. The program recognizes
as many as 50 products and/or services in the industry each year with four main award categories:

  • Distributor/Wholesaler Choice Award
