Americans Need to Flush Smart

August 7, 2024

The U.S. wastes more than $440 million annually by flushing more down the toilet than they should, according to Talking Toilets. Over half of U.S. residents (53%) have reported flushing things they know they shouldn’t have, such as baby wipes, cleaning wipes, paper towels, and more.

In turn, the Responsible Flushing Alliance (RFA), a nonprofit trade association, is on a mission to put an end to improper flushing by educating consumers on the importance of responsible flushing and looking for the “Do Not Flush” symbol on wet wipes packaging.

July marked Flush Smart Month, and RFA introduced an unexpected dynamic duo to catch people’s attention about an often-overlooked issue in a creative, memorable way—a talking and singing toilet. Learn more and meet Mel, the world’s first crime-fighting toilet on the case to expose the dire consequences of a bad flush.
