Clorox Products in Short Supply After Cyberattack

Despite unauthorized activity being noted in August, manufacturing is still not back to normal.

September 19, 2023

According to CNN, cleaning product company Clorox revealed via a regulatory filing on Monday that a cyberattack has caused a disruption of the company’s manufacturing operations, making it difficult to keep up with customer demands.

The cyberattack took place in August, when Clorox detected unauthorized activity within its information technology systems. The company’s response included a pullback in operations, resulting in a reduced supply of its cleaning products.

According to CNN, while Clorox believes the cyberattack has been contained, its product manufacturing is not yet up to speed, with all order fulfillment currently being handled manually. The company has not said which specific products are in short supply due to the disruption.

“Clorox has already resumed production at the vast majority of its manufacturing sites and expects the ramp-up to full production to occur over time,” the company stated. “At this time, the company cannot estimate how long it will take to resume fully normalized operations.”

CNN reports that while the company anticipated its current-quarter financial results could be negatively affected by the incident, it also said that any predictions on long-term effects would be “premature.”
