CMM Survey: Restrooms Are Hardest Areas to Clean

April 26, 2022

It comes as no surprise that facility managers consider restrooms the hardest areas in a facility to clean, according to a new CMM survey of nearly 300 facility managers and in-house service providers.

When asked to choose from a list of “most problematic areas/surfaces” to clean and maintain, 44% of respondents of the 2022 CMM In-House/Facility Management Benchmarking Survey ranked restrooms at the top. Restrooms were followed by carpeted surfaces (15%), entryways/foyers (11%), multi-surface areas (11%), hard floor surfaces (10%), and food service areas (8%).

Compared to CMM’s 2021 benchmarking survey, restrooms remained on top, slightly rising from 43%. Carpeted surfaces took second place again, falling from 17%. Multi-surface areas jumped from fifth place to tying at third place this year with entryway/foyers. Hard floor surfaces fell from fourth to fifth in ranking.
