CMM Survey: Restrooms Rank as No. 1 Facility Problem Area

April 22, 2021

Most facility managers consider restrooms to be the hardest areas to clean, according to a new CMM survey of more than 500 facility managers and in-house service providers.

When asked to choose from a list of “most problematic areas/surfaces” to clean and maintain, more than 40% of respondents to the 2021 CMM In-House/Facility Management Benchmarking Survey ranked restrooms at the top. Restrooms were followed by carpeted surfaces (20%), entryways/foyers (14%), hard floor surfaces (12%), and multisurface areas (9%).

Compared to CMM’s 2020 benchmarking survey, restrooms remained on top though falling slightly from 43%. Carpeted surfaces took second place again jumping from 17%. Entryway/foyers jumped from fifth place to third place this year while hard floor care surfaces remained at fourth place.
