Report finds small Midwest cities offer affordable office spaces and low labor costs
If you’re looking to start a cleaning business, you may want to consider moving to Holland, MI. This small city was No. 1 on a list of best small cities in which to start a business compiled by personal-finance website WalletHub. The other top cities included St. George, UT; Aberdeen, SD; Wilson, NC; and Cheyenne, WY.
WalletHub compared 1,261 cities with a population between 25,000 and 100,000 residents to determine their business environment, access to resources, and business costs. The report found another Michigan city, Kenwood, had the most affordable office space—US$9.06 per square foot—which is 6.8 times lower than Mountain View, CA, the city with the most expensive office space at $61.85 per square foot. Another Midwestern city, Carbondale, IL, was found to have the lowest labor costs, with a median annual income of $19,515, which is 9.7 times lower than McLean, VA, with a median annual income of $190,258.
