Convention Centers Announce Commitment to GBAC STAR Accreditation

May 12, 2020

Chicago’s McCormick Place and Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, have announced plans to pursue GBAC STAR™ accreditation from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council® (GBAC), a division of ISSA.

In addition, Atlanta’s Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA) and the Savannah Convention Center have disclosed similar plans to achieve GBAC STAR accreditation. To earn accreditation, these venues must demonstrate compliance with GBAC STAR’s 20 elements, which range from standard operating procedures and risk assessment strategies to personal protective equipment and emergency preparedness and response measures. McCormick Place, the Orange County Convention Center, Georgia World Congress Center, and the Savannah Convention Center join the Las Vegas Convention Center among the first convention centers in the United States to receive GBAC STAR™ accreditation.

“Since the onset of this pandemic we have been committed to ensuring our facilities are safe for the return of our customers, show attendees, and team members,” said Frank Poe, GWCCA executive director. “Working with GBAC to achieve GBAC STAR accreditation will ensure the highest cleaning and disinfection protocols are being implemented at GWCC and Savannah. We would expect nothing less of ourselves and for our facilities.”
