COVID-19 Update: Jobs Making a Comeback Amid the Pandemic

June 11, 2020

Several industries are making a comeback in the later stage of the pandemic as facilities reopen, CNN reports.

In May, employers added 2.5 million jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the best month for job growth since the BLS started tracking the data in 1939.

The occupations that reported the most gains included: restaurant and bar workers, construction workers, retail workers, factory workers, dentists, deliver and laundry workers, and custodians.

Custodial services to facilities and residential dwellings added 68,400 jobs last month. In fact, the cleaning industry was the only industry to remain strong through all phases of the pandemic. Earlier this year when nonessential businesses closed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses such as technology, liquor, ecommerce, and video streaming entertainment were strong. The US$117 cleaning industry experienced rapid growth with demand at an all-time high.
