Aside from keeping schools clean and sanitized, some school custodians take on other responsibilities to keep children safe. Fox News reports that a school custodian in Utah is being called a hero after saving the life of a child who was choking during lunch.

Doug Christensen, a custodian at Silver Mesa Elementary School in Sandy, Utah, was sweeping the cafeteria when a girl approached him saying her friend was choking. Christensen, a former EMT, had been in this situation before so he was able to perform the Heimlich maneuver on the girl who then ejected a tater tot from her throat.

Christensen told Fox News he was just doing his job. “I’m just doing what I normally do. I’d do it for anybody, so it’s just normal routine.”
