Hotel Housekeepers to Guests: Flush the Toilet!

November 4, 2021

Like everyone else, hotel housekeeping guests have taken to social media, but their advice is sound. Hotel guests in a thread on Reddit asked what they could do to make life easier for hotel cleaners, European Cleaning Journal reports. Housekeepers responded that a stripped bed and a tidy room would make a world of difference.

One cleaner begged guests to make sure the toilet was flushed before they left the room. “Leaving a toilet that looks like an open septic tank is really just mean,” the housekeeper wrote.

Another cleaner asked guests not to leave trash strewn around the room. Instead, place all garbage in the room’s trash can, then empty water bottles and cans before placing them in the recycling bin.

Hotel housekeepers would prefer that you not make your bed before checking out. However, removing all the linen and leaving it piled up on the bed ready for washing is an appreciated gesture. So is placing all the used towels in one place, such as in the bathtub, and throwing out any used amenities such as soap, shampoo, and coffee pods unless the hotel has a recycling program for these items.
