More Americans Prioritizing Spring Cleaning
New survey finds that 80% of Americans will spring clean this year.
With spring on its way—and International Cleaning Week right around the corner (March 24–30, 2024)—more Americans than ever are finding spring cleaning to be top priority, according to new data released by the American Cleaning Institute (ACI).
The survey of 1,000 U.S. adults, conducted by Wakefield Research in February 2024, found that 80% of Americans plan to spring clean this year, which is a more than a 10% increase from three years ago.
In fact, the survey found that the same percentage, 80%, would rather spring clean than fill out their annual income tax forms.
However, for many , a good spring cleaning takes time. According to 45% of the survey’s participants, it takes at least three days for them to spring clean, with 22% saying that spring cleaning takes at least five days to complete.
While more Americans are willing to take on spring cleaning, that doesn’t necessarily mean they enjoy it. The survey listed the following as the most dreaded tasks on spring cleaning to-do lists:
- Cleaning spaces that are hard to reach or access, such as behind or under furniture or appliances (49%)
- Places that are particularly filthy, such as bathrooms, vents, and basements (38%)
- Cleaning outside, including gutter upkeep and yard landscaping (31%).
