School Custodian Doubles as Comedian on Snow Day
According to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, a Worcester, Massachusetts, school custodian put his skills as a professional comedian to work to announce Monday’s snow day to the school’s students and parents on social media.
A winter storm dumped 15 inches of snow on Worcester—40 miles west of Boston—on Sunday, which still needed to be cleaned away Monday morning, prompting the closing of schools in the district. Asked to share the news, Worcester Public Schools custodian and standup comic Jimmy Cash applied his sense of humor to his announcement of the snow day, referring to himself on the district’s X, formerly known as Twitter, account as its “Chief Meteorologist.”
“Tomorrow, January 8, 2024, is officially cancelled. That’s right. It’s cancelled!” Cash exclaimed. “What a curve ball! That’s New England weather for you,” he added sarcastically.
“I mean, we tried everything,” he said. “We took out the snow blowers, the shovels, even a bunch of paper towels. Nothing would do it. So, I hope you’ll all enjoy. I know I won’t. I’ll be in the snow. I haven’t enjoyed a snow day in 20 years.”
Cash makes a true point, because, as WCVB-TV reports, when nearly everyone else involved in a school district gets to take a snow day off, that’s when the custodial crews go to work.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to cancel school,” Cash said of making the announcement. “But you can only celebrate so much when you still have to go in and clean up all the snow, so it’s an ironic twist of fate.”
