Spring Cleaning Survey Links Cleanliness to Well-Being
Have you started your spring cleaning yet? A survey of 2,000 American homeowners by TruGreen found that 78% say there is a direct link between their home’s cleanliness and their well-being.
Most of the survey respondents (75%) reported their stress increases when the inside of their home is dirty and 70% also become stressed when their outdoor spaces are not tidy. After two years of the pandemic, 75% said their mental health would have suffered without a clean place to live and 71% said their outdoor space served as an “oasis” at a time when many entertainment facilities were closed.
More than 1,600 of the 2,000 respondents said they do spring cleaning every year and listed their motivation for doing so as:
- Improving their well-being though a healthy environment (78%)
- Feeling productive (53%)
- Welcoming the change of seasons (48%)
- Preparing for other spring activities (47%).
More than half (68%) of the survey respondents reported they are often overwhelmed by spring cleaning and 59% admit they’d rather hire a professional than do the work themselves. The most common spring cleaning tasks include:
- Cleaning the bathroom (56%)
- Cleaning out the fridge (55%)
- Cleaning and organizing the garage (53%)
- Cleaning out the pantry (48%)
- Organizing the basement and attic (44%).
