Students Thank Custodian with Fund for New Truck
Earlier this month on National Custodian Workers’ Appreciation Day, two students at Jasper High School in Jasper, Alabama, created a GoFundMe account to buy a new truck for their school custodian, Travis Kennedy, Daily Mountain Eagle reports.
The students, who are sophomores, have known Kennedy since they were in eighth grade and consider him a mentor and a friend. The fund started out at US$10 and grew to over $6,000 in one week. When a local automobile dealership heard about the fund, it pledged to match the donations up to $10,000.
Kennedy has worked 22 years for Jasper City Schools and commutes 20 miles each way for his job. He is driving a 30-year-old truck as his previous vehicle was damaged in an accident.
The high school principal said most of the donations have come from students and community members.
