Air Quality Rule Proposed in Utah

The Utah Air Quality Board has proposed a rule to lessen the amount of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), a contributor to air pollution, used by businesses in several Utah regions.

Businesses which use 55 or more gallons of cleaning solvents per year would be required to switch to solvents with a VOCs level low enough to meet the federal air quality standard of PM2.5 (fine particulate pollution) according to the rule. Businesses along the state’s Wasatch Front region and in Tooele and Cache counties would be affected by the proposed legislation, which will be under discussion at a public hearing on March 16 at the Utah Department of Environmental Quality, according to Deseret News .
