For K-12 schools, being able to use the gym floor for games, concerts, and events is crucial. Sunnyside School District in Tucson, Arizona is the second largest Public-School District in Arizona serving students throughout the southern part of the City of Tucson and areas adjacent in Pima County, including San Xavier Reservation. School facilities are available for rent to public agencies, and organized community groups for events including education, elections, and civic welfare. The district has eight wood athletic floors which must maintain their championship appearance year-round and handle heavy foot traffic on a daily basis.
Sunnyside’s custodial supervisor, Manuel Portillo, and assistant director of maintenance, Fernando Valencia, were exploring options for replacing the district’s wood floor regimen to have a less time consuming and labor-intensive program. They also prefer the use of green certified products to follow the district’s initiative of using sustainable cleaning and maintenance practices throughout its facilities.
Sunnyside was offered the new program, Wood Care by Diversey, powered by Bona®, which is designed for K-12 educational facilities, featuring smart systems and a range of Bona products that simplify and protect wood floors. A demonstration was set up in one of the district’s 8,000-square-foot gymnasiums.
