Choose the cleaning method best suited to the facility

Carpet Care Overview

Maintaining clean and fresh carpets is crucial in commercial facilities such as office buildings, retail stores, medical and dental offices, and more. These spaces experience heavy foot traffic, making effective carpet cleaning methods even more critical.

Commercial cleaning companies often employ pre- and post-treatment techniques to address specific issues like stains or high-traffic areas. More importantly, their workers complete a thorough vacuuming before any other cleaning method to remove loose dirt and debris. When vacuuming is part of a nightly cleaning regimen, it can help keep carpets looking and feeling as fresh as the day they were installed.

Learn about the various carpet care procedures that can help keep your carpets clean and pristine.

Hot water extraction

Hot water extraction, also known as steam cleaning, is one of the most common and effective methods for carpet cleaning in commercial buildings. It involves spraying hot water with a commercial-grade cleaning solution onto the carpet to break down dirt, bacteria, and stains.

This method is especially advantageous for medical facilities, where maintaining high cleanliness levels is crucial. The hot water and steam help eliminate germs, allergens, and odor-causing agents from the carpet, creating a healthier environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Encapsulation

Encapsulation is a low-moisture carpet cleaning method perfect for retail stores. This method applies a specialized cleaning solution to the carpet, forming crystals around the dirt particles. Cleaning staff can then easily vacuum up the crystals, leaving the carpet clean and dry.

Encapsulation cleaning is quick and does not require significant drying time, making it convenient for busy retail spaces.

Bonnet cleaning

Bonnet cleaning is ideal for fitness centers and schools, where frequent maintenance is necessary due to the high traffic and potential for spills. This cleaning method uses a rotating brush or bonnet pad soaked in a cleaning solution to agitate the carpet’s surface and absorb dirt.

Bonnet cleaning is effective for removing surface-level stains and dirt quickly. However, it may not be as effective in deep cleaning heavily soiled carpets.

Low-moisture cleaning

Low-moisture cleaning methods, such as dry compound and dry foam cleaning, are suitable for commercial buildings that require minimal downtime and quick drying times. Dry compound cleaning involves spreading an absorbent compound on the carpet, then working it into the fibers using a machine. The compound absorbs dirt and can be vacuumed away.

Dry foam cleaning uses a specialized machine that generates foam, which is applied to the carpet and agitated. The foam encapsulates dirt and is then extracted using a vacuum.

These methods are particularly convenient for areas in commercial buildings that cannot be quickly closed off for long periods, such as hallways and entryways.

Regular vacuuming

While not a specific carpet cleaning method, regular vacuuming is essential to maintaining clean carpets in all commercial buildings. It helps to remove loose dirt, dust, and allergens from the carpet’s surface, preventing them from settling deeper into the fibers. By establishing a consistent vacuuming routine, commercial buildings can extend the lifespan of their carpets and reduce the need for more extensive cleaning methods.
