CDC Reports Flu Activity Decreases

For the fifth consecutive week, influenza activity among clinical tests has continued to decline, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) report for the 11th week of the flu season, between March 12 to 18. However, overall flu activity remains elevated across the country.

  • 3.2 percent of outpatients showed influenza-like illnesses (ILI), a decrease from 3.6 percent during week 9, according to the outpatient Influenza-like surveillance Network.
  • Two additional influenza-associated pediatric deaths were reported by the CDC, bringing the total of influenza-related pediatric death to 55 for the 2016-2017 season.
  • Twelve states continue to experience high ILI activity.

The CDC still strongly recommends flu vaccinations for those 6 months or older along with daily cleaning habits such as hand washing and disinfection practices. To see the full report from the CDC, click here.
