Former ISSA President Passes Away

Richards H. “Dix” Jarden, former president of ISSA and the Bullen Cos. Inc., passed away February 18, 2017. He was 96 years old.

Jarden was born April 4, 1920, in Rutherford, NJ. He was a graduate of Valley Forge Military Academy Junior College and enlisted with the U.S. Army in 1942. During World War II, he served with the 154th Engineer Battalion-C Company in the Pacific Theater, leaving the military as a captain at the end of war.

Following his stint in the military, Jarden joined his father in the family business, Franklin Research Co. He resigned as company president in the early 1960s, when Franklin Research was purchased by the Purex Corp.

In 1963, Jarden purchased the Bullen Chemical Co. and its manufacturing plant in Folcroft, PA. Jarden served as company president until he passed the title onto his son Scott. He continued to serve as chairman and remained actively involved in the company until two weeks before his passing.

Jarden served as ISSA president in 1984. He was named the recipient of ISSA’s Jack D. Ramaley Distinguished Service Award in 1990.

Jarden is survived by his three sons, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and 12 nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a scholarship fund established in his name. Donations may be mailed to the ISSA Foundation, Richards H. Jarden Fund, 3300 Dundee Rd., Northbrook, IL 60062.
