Keeping Restrooms Clean With TANCS® Dry Steam Sanitation

Survey Says:

  • According to an International Facility Management Association (IFMA) survey, 69% of facility managers believe restrooms “are the most frequently visited common area of the building,” and 25% believe the appearance of a building’s restrooms have the “greatest potential to negatively affect a visitor’s impression of a facility if not properly maintained,” second only to the appearance of a building’s lobby or entrance.
  • In a wide-ranging survey conducted by an opinion research firm, 39% of respondents believed they were more likely to pick up germs in a public restroom versus other places, with 55% viewing restroom doorknobs and handles as the most likely spots for germs aside from toilets. Faucets were viewed as the next likely source.
  • A study of 25 restrooms by the University of Arizona’s Department of Microbiology and Immunology found hot-water faucets at 31% of the sites were seriously contaminated.

Thus, designing an effective cleaning program with the right equipment is of utmost importance.

The TANCS Solution— No Chemicals, No Wait, No Survivors

TANCS® Steam Vapor cleaning can play a vital role in a cleaning program. Patented* TANCS Steam Vapor cleaning enables rapid disinfection, improves appearance, indoor hygiene, worker/tenant safety, and indoor air quality, while reducing cross-contamination, odor, expense, and occupant exposure to chemicals. TANCS Steam Vapor systems direct low-moisture,** (6%) low-pressure (50 to 60 PSI) steam—with vapor temperature at the surface between 215 and 230 degrees—to the cleanable areas of fixtures and floors. The energy from hot steam vapor penetrates deeply into porous material and sanitizes and disinfects surfaces thoroughly in seconds not minutes, reaching beyond what can be seen. This heat energy releases embedded residues, reducing the need for scrubbing or chemicals.

At the University of Washington, swab tests revealed that the use of steam vapor cleaning resulted in a higher level of sanitation as compared with traditional cleaning methods. The University’s facility services custodial division employed the MondoVap 2400, Thermo Accelerated Nano Crystal Sanitation (TANCS) equipped steam vapor cleaning system, manufactured by Advanced Vapor Technologies in Everett, WA, to clean select restrooms over a period of six weeks. In each case, fixtures were notably cleaner after steam vapor was applied as compared with traditional cleaning methods.
