Arkansas High School Custodian Honored with Football State Championship Ring
A custodian at Greenwood High School who cleans the Greenwood, Arkansas school’s football facilities was given a special shout out in ESPN’s SportsCenter social media recently. The football team—the Greenwood Bulldogs—honored the custodian with a state championship ring, 40/29 News reports.
The Bulldogs won the 2020 6A State Championship in December. The team players decided to raise money for a state championship ring to give to their custodian, Jamie Freeman, who has been servicing Bulldogs facilities since 2019.
Chris Young, head coach, told 40/29, that the players “came to us when we were talking about rings and who all was gonna get one and they said, ‘Without a doubt, Jamie is getting one.’”
Tatum Sadler, a high school senior, told 40/29, “The thing about Jamie is he’s all about what Greenwood football’s about. He’s a hardworking, blue-collar type of guy.”
“It’s really exciting and it says a lot about the boys that play for Greenwood that they would want to do this for me,” Freeman told FOX Television Stations. “It says a lot about their character.”
Freeman was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at three-years-old. He told 40/29, “The ring hopefully means that in some way, by the grace of God, I’m able to be a good influence.”
