Cadets Surprise Custodian With Football Tickets

December 16, 2019

Cadets at the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, surprised long-time custodian Dwight Holmes with front-row tickets to a Dallas Cowboys football game, ABC News reports.

Holmes, a long-time Cowboys fan, never misses watching a game on television. The cadets wanted to do something special for him because he doesn’t just do his job but goes out of his way to get to know the cadets and express interest in their lives.

The Citadel students began raising money for Holmes’ gift, expecting they would collect enough for a Cowboys jersey. So many cadets wanted to contribute they ended up with about US$1,800—enough for a front-row ticket to the December 29 game in Dallas, Texas, against the Washington Redskins—along with an Emmitt Smith number 22 jersey, plane tickets, a hotel reservation, and expense money. Holmes said he was touched as he has never seen a Cowboys game in person.
