Denver Custodians Rally for More Hours
Custodians working for Commercial Cleaning Services (CCS) in Denver, Colorado protested for additional work hours and asked for more respect while they are tasked with COVID-19 cleaning protocols, Colorado Times Recorder reports.
The custodians, members of Service Employee International Union (SEIU) Local 105, said they need additional hours during this pandemic to help maintain higher building cleaning put in place by the pandemic, as well as to financially support their families.
Juan Montaña, local SEIU property services director, said the custodians are also asking for respect.
“Our members are really working hard to make sure that people who come back to the buildings feel safe,” Montaña said. “But our workers need to have the materials, need to have the respect, need to have the resources to do it.”
The custodians previously sought more hours late last year, after some lost their jobs at more than 150 buildings in the city. CCS reinstated their hours, but then cut them again. Union leaders are hoping they can come to another agreement with CCS soon.
