Federal Grants to Help Homeless Veterans Find Employment

June 8, 2021

As several industries, including the cleaning sector, struggle to find enough employees to meet demand, some groups of Americans lack employment. The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) recently announced it will give more than US$52 million in grants to help homeless veterans find employment.

The Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS) department will award 119 continuation grants totaling more than $40 million and 36 new three-year grant awards totaling more than $12 million. These grants will result in more than $52 million to provide a wide range of services to homeless veterans or those at risk of homelessness through VETS Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program.

Grant recipients will also work with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs’ Supportive Service for Veteran Families program and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Continuum of Care Program.

“As the nation continues its recovery from the pandemic, initiatives like these are more important than ever,” Marty Walsh, secretary of labor, said. “Our veterans deserve our best efforts to ensure they have a safe place to live, means to support themselves and their families and opportunities to pursue a fulfilling career.”

“The Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program reflects our commitment to ensuring that our veterans have and are prepared for the opportunities they deserve,” said James Rodriguez, VETS principal deputy assistant secretary.
